It was a lovely cool Sunday morning when 15 local CFA members came down to the Lake Tyers Aboriginal Trust Training Centre for a Koori Cultural Awareness Session.   It was a full day session from 10am -4pm that aimed to provide an insight into Aboriginal culture and history.

Students at VEMTC - Wangaratta

On a cloudy day in October, 68 young student fire fighters boarded buses and made the trip to Wangaratta in anticipation of attending the Victorian Emergency Management Training Centre (VEMTC) to undertake hot fire training on the PAD (Practical Area Drills).

VFF and CFA launch joint trial

This week the VFF Grains Group supported by CFA will launch a trial programme for fire risk management during harvest called the Voluntary Grain Harvesting Guide. This joint initiative of VFF and CFA provides an objective measure for farmers and header operators to manage fire risk.

Aboriginal firefighters honoured in Lake Tyers

Saturday 25 October was a wonderful day of celebration and commemoration for Lake Tyers Trust firefighters in Gippsland. Joined by members from surrounding brigades, District 11 operations staff, the Koori community and family from across the state, the firefighters were reunited with old friends, remembered founding members, received their service medals and celebrated the importance of the brigade to the Lake Tyers community and CFA.
