Juniors wow judges at Midlands Cup

Six junior CFA brigades gathered yesterday in Greendale to vie for the annual Midlands Junior Cup, a day for the 11 to 15-year-olds to demonstrate their skills across events including burn-over drills, search and rescue and running edge fire attack.

Pledge count surges

The overall pledge count has surged past 8,000 in CFA’s Fire Safety Pledge competition with Point Cook Fire Brigade taking a commanding early lead in the overall brigade category.

From 20 to 23 October 2015, Melbourne hosted the Australian New Zealand Burn Association conference which saw over 300 delegates from numerous countries such as Australia, USA, Philippines, Hong Kong, Brazil, New Zealand, Singapore, France and Malawi.

BA replacement project enters the next phase

The Respiratory Protection Replacement Project (RPRP) will soon be replacing self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) systems at CFA, MFB, Ambulance Victoria, Victoria Police and other state government agencies, including Corrections Victoria.

Australasian Firefighters Championship

Host Brigade Echuca has won the title of 2015 Champion Team, after a weekend of competition involving teams from Australia, New Zealand and Fiji. Echuca was one of nine Victorian teams competing, they included Euroa, Geelong West, Melton, MFB, Ocean Grove, Pyramid Hill, Swan Hill and Werribee. NZ Brigade New Norfolk were runners up to Echuca, and the next Australasian Firefighters Championship will be held in New Zealand.

Tackling the risk of tyre stockpiles

In 2012-13, almost 50,000 tonnes of waste tyres (around six million car tyres) were stockpiled or dumped in Victoria. Whole tyres are flammable and, when stored in large volumes, can create a fire hazard.
