Castlemaine opens its doors

On Sunday 25 October Castlemaine Fire Brigade held its Open Day which proved to be extremely popular and well beyond our expectations.

New recruits for Metcalfe Group

Metcalfe Group of brigades recently held a CFA Recruit Course (Bushfire Firefighter) at Castlemaine Fire Station. Local volunteer instructors Darryn Cutlack and Ron Gartside from Castlemaine Fire Brigade took the 19 new members through two days of theory and one day of practical assessment.

Newstead and Maldon groups visited by VicPol

In October Newstead and Maldon groups invited Victoria Police to Campbells Creek Fire Station for a presentation about clandestine (secret) drug laboratories. Approximately 40 brigade members sat transfixed watching a presentation about the dangers and warning signs of labs which can affect firefighters.

Pyramid Hill at Australasian Champs

A team of six from Pyramid Hill Fire Brigade will be competing against 29 other teams at the Australasian Firefighters Championship to be held in Echuca on 23-25 October. The teams come from across Australasia, including teams from New Zealand and Fiji.

D2 inter-brigade training

Approximately two years ago four brigades came together and conducted training on a Thursday night in Castlemaine. At the completion of that night the four brigades involved; Campbells Creek, Castlemaine, Chewton and Harcourt agreed to continue the training bi-monthly with each brigade taking a turn at being the host.

CFA/SES joint training a success for Golden Square

Golden Square Firefighters have spent two weeks during September undertaking joint training with the Bendigo SES unit. The training is a part of an annual joint training relationship that has been developed between the brigade and the unit.

Domestic violence workshop at Woodend brigade

Woodend Fire Brigade Captain Mick Christie was at a recent regional meeting where a new program ‘Against domestic violence’ was discussed. “They were looking for some CFA brigades to become involved and participate in a special workshop”, Mick said, “and I was more than happy for Woodend brigade to participate”.

New Romsey Fire Station opens

Romsey Fire Brigade members past and present were joined by the Member for Macedon, Mary-Anne Thomas, Cr Ian Ellis (Macedon Ranges Shire Council), CFA Board Member Michael Tudball AFSM, Chief Officer Euan Ferguson AFSM and Ops Officer Andrew Waterson to officially open their new fire station on Friday 24 July 2015.
