Sunday 26 April saw a large gathering at the Newstead Fire Station for its brigade awards ceremony. ACO Mike Wassing presented long service awards, National Medals and National Emergency Medals.

Big fill used at structure fire

Malmsbury Big Fill recently came in handy at a structure fire in Denver. The house, which was fullly alight on arrival of crews, was unfortuntately destroyed but crews successfully protected and saved an adjoining house.

Axedale Mow-Down makes a mint

Axedale and Mosquito Creek fire brigades combined forces with the AROLMRA over the weekend to host the inaugural Axedale Mow-Down. The event featured a series of ride-on mower races, with the mean-mowing-machines ranging from 50cc capacity all the way up to 450cc.

District 2 Fire Fighters now have access to a Firefighter Rehabilitation Unit located at Golden Square which can be requested through VicFire to attend any fire or incident requiring firefighters to be put through rehabilitation.

It appears that the end may be in sight to what has been an interesting summer season for us. Our early fire conditions and activity kept us busy right up until early into the new year. However, more favourable conditions and, in some cases, reasonable rainfall has seen conditions become much more sedate than at the same time last year.

New tanker for Talbot

Talbot Fire Brigade’s 1986 Hino 3.4 tanker has been upgraded, having served Talbot for 28 years, and had been decommissioned in November 2014.
