Local Matters for Maiden Gully

This month, Maiden Gully Fire Brigade has been selected to participate in Local Matters at Grill’d Bendigo. Local Matters is a community donation program that sees each Grill’d restaurant donate $500 to the community every month.

More than a century later and still going strong

Fire brigades have been holding local and district competitions for more than 140 years. The Rural Championships have been held continuously since the early 1950s. This year is no different with approximately 200 brigades competing in the Urban and Rural State Championships.

Fire season - lessons learned to date

As anticipated, we experienced an early start to fire season across our District. Below average rainfall in most parts throughout winter and spring resulted in the early curing of grass, drying of forest fuels, along with below average levels in dams and water catchments.

The Golden Square brigade is one of only two Specialist Response brigades in District 2 that provides an LPG (Gas) Emergency Response service. The other brigade being Gisborne.

Changes to appliance fleet at Riddells Creek

Hay, that’s a whirlwind

Fire crews – including one waterbombing helicopter and the Firebird fixed wing plane – ‘hit it hard, hit it fast’ yesterday in response to a 45-hectare stubble fire in Avenmore (near Elmore) which also set a large hay stack alight.
