Four die on Victorian waterways

The Australian Volunteer Coast Guard Association is concerned by the increase in boating-related fatalities after the official boating season. We have had four fatalities in Victorian waters since the Queen's Birthday long weekend.

Heyfield Emergency Service Expo

On Sunday14th June, Heyfield Fire Brigade hosted its first Emergency Services Expo.  The CFA came together with the SES, Ambulance Victoria, Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) and Victoria Police to talk to the community about fires and local emergencies and provide an opportunity for the public to see the equipment applied and operated in an emergency situation.

Capitalising on the success of the 2014 Living with Bushfire community conference, event organisers have announced the event will continue in 2015. Federation University Australia’s Gippsland Campus in Churchill will again host the event, with conference dates set for Friday 2 and Saturday 3 October.

Heyfield FB - Interagency training Hellitack 333

Heyfield Fire Brigade training on Tuesday 27th January saw Heyfield Brigade once again out and about having a go at something a bit different.  This time a joint training session with the DELWP crew of Hellitack 333.  A full safety brief was given, followed by a detailed description of the aircraft and its capabilities.

Members manning portable weather stations

A Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) initiative 10 years ago to gather more accurate weather readings close to going fires has led to the strategic long-term placement of three portable automatic weather stations (PAWS) with fire brigades in Hazelwood North, Wangaratta Northand Horsham, and two with the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) at Altona.
