Four die on Victorian waterways

The Australian Volunteer Coast Guard Association is concerned by the increase in boating-related fatalities after the official boating season. We have had four fatalities in Victorian waters since the Queen's Birthday long weekend.

Capitalising on the success of the 2014 Living with Bushfire community conference, event organisers have announced the event will continue in 2015. Federation University Australia’s Gippsland Campus in Churchill will again host the event, with conference dates set for Friday 2 and Saturday 3 October.

Members manning portable weather stations

A Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) initiative 10 years ago to gather more accurate weather readings close to going fires has led to the strategic long-term placement of three portable automatic weather stations (PAWS) with fire brigades in Hazelwood North, Wangaratta Northand Horsham, and two with the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) at Altona.

Milk run foiled by truck fire

CFA fireys take on aircraft exercise in Gippsland

The Gippsland Regional Aircraft Exercise was held today at the Latrobe Valley Airfield. The exercise is an opportunity for CFA members to practice their skills in air observing, relaying information back to an Incident Control Centre, flight following and aerial fire mapping.

Aboriginal firefighters honoured in Lake Tyers

Saturday 25 October was a wonderful day of celebration and commemoration for Lake Tyers Trust firefighters in Gippsland. Joined by members from surrounding brigades, District 11 operations staff, the Koori community and family from across the state, the firefighters were reunited with old friends, remembered founding members, received their service medals and celebrated the importance of the brigade to the Lake Tyers community and CFA.
