Capitalising on the success of the 2014 Living with Bushfire community conference, event organisers have announced the event will continue in 2015. Federation University Australia’s Gippsland Campus in Churchill will again host the event, with conference dates set for Friday 2 and Saturday 3 October.

PAVS success in Jindivick

A review of their Property Advice Visits (PAVS) program run by the Drouin West Fire Brigade, has found it was an effective way to actively engage with residents who may be at high risk of danger from forest fire. PAVS was also a good way to evaluate community engagement efforts. Pleasingly, the brigade found that more than 80 per cent of residents had thought through a plan of action to take on high risk fire danger days.

Darnum hazardous materials incident

At approximately 12:45pm yesterday, 26th February, local brigades from Darnum-Ellinbank and Yarragon, along with Warragul Hazmat, responded to a report that chemicals had mixed and had a reaction at milk processing factory in Darnum.
