NEM Ceremony Photos

In October 2011, the National Emergency Medal was added to the Australian Honours. It recognises service to others during nationally significant emergencies. The 2009 Victorian Bushfires have been declared a nationally significant emergency and members of CFA who rendered service during the specified dates of these fires are eligible for the National Emergency Medal.

Members are encouraged to apply for a new or replacement CFA Member ID Card through Brigades Online. ID cards are available for all members, including junior members. Your personal identification card can be used to formally identify you as a member of CFA.

In June 2014, CFA created and distributed the How to Wear Honours and Awards booklet with Brigade magazine. This booklet gave members up-to-date information about wearing Honours and Awards.

Brigade life membership (ribbon colour)

At the June 2015 CFA Honours & Awards Committee meeting, it was determined that the ribbon and ribbon bar for the Brigade Life Membership (Life Member Jewel) must be the colour red (Pantone Code PMS 186). The Committee determined that a standardised ribbon colour is required for all future Brigade Life Member Medals.

Printed cards for CFA Service & Life Member Awards

As of Monday 20 April 2015, printed cards (7.5cms x 16cms) will be included within all CFA Service and Life Membership award sets. The printed cards will be placed between the white cardboard cover & the award box (a copy of the card is attached).

National Emergency Medal - May 2014

Update: National Emergency Medal - May 2014 The ‘Vic Fires 09’ campaign has been declared a Nationally Significant Event under the auspice of the National Emergency Medal. Subsequently, in February 2012, a call for National Emergency Medal nominations was made to all brigades to provide details and evidence to support members being considered for this prestigious award. Following an extensive consolidation process, the first schedule containing 4,760 of CFA nominations was submitted to the Australian Honours and Awards Secretariat (AH&AS) in November 2012. Additional nominations were also submitted for consideration in 2013 and 2014.As a result, CFA has received to date approval for over 5,450 Award Sets. As at May 2014, 3,446 approved recipients have been presented a National Emergency Medal award set at one of 28 ceremonies delivered across the state of Victoria. The remaining medals will be presented in 2014 and future ceremonies will be scheduled as new nominations are approved.

Hume National Emergency Medals

More than 540 recipients across the CFA Hume Region have been presented with National Emergency Medals at ceremonies held in Kilmore, Kinglake, Marysville, Shepparton and Wodonga.
