The community of Dargo came together on Sunday 19 October 2014 to officially open their fire station, receive the keys to their new Ultra light tanker and to celebrate and pay tribute to members of the township’s fire brigade.  The Hon Tim Bull, Member for Gippsland East handed over the keys to the new vehicle to Captain Brian Madigan along with unveiling the memorial plaque for the station.

The Dargo Brigade has been serving the community for over 55 years and plays a vital role in the community due to their remote location.  The station represents the third station modification and remains on the original township site.  It certainly provides an improved service to the community and a facility to meet future needs of the region which was funded through the CFA’s rural fire station program.  The new facilities provide a two bay motor room, meeting room facilities, kitchenette and a communications room.  The new ultra light tanker, funded through the Volunteer Emergency Services Equipment Program, will deliver increased water capacity, enhanced fire suppression capability and provides a primary role in wildfire to perform the first attack in difficult to access fires.

Guests and members celebrated a combined total of 370 years’ service to the Dargo community and CFA.  Brian Madigan, Brigade Captain received a 25 year clasp.

A special thank you to the Dargo ladies for the wonderful lunch they provided at the Dargo Community Hall.
