Air support called in for Mt Cottrell fire

CFA has led a multi-agency effort including air support, strike teams, 40 tankers and support vehicles, to bring a grass fire at Mt Cottrell under control.

CFA was first notified just after 5pm on Monday, 14 December to reports of the grass fire near Troups Road which quickly escalated as the fire travelled south.

An Emergency Warning was issued during the height of the fire for the communities of Mt Cottrell, Truganina, and Chartwell.

Crews managed to slow the forward rate of spread at Middle Road, however some sheds and vehicles were destroyed during the fire.

The fire’s perimeter was estimated to be 5 kilometres, with the total burnt area initially estimated to be around 110 hectares.

Crews remained on scene overnight, with the cause of the fire being investigated.
