AFAC 2013 - Melbourne

Plans and arrangements for CFA participation in the 2013 AFAC Annual Conference are advanced with the selection of delegates now underway.

This year’s conference will be held in early September at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. The theme for 2013 is Shaping Tomorrow Together.

An estimated 1,400 delegates are expected to attend the conference to discuss the latest challenges and trends in emergency management at the biggest and most important ‘all hazards’ conference of its kind in Australasia, the 20th AFAC and 10th Bushfire CRC Conference.

This year, CFA’s Workforce Development section will fund the attendance of 52 members at the AFAC Conference. The delegate group will comprise:

  •  3 VFBV representatives
  •  2 board members
  • 17 staff members
  • 4 staff for oral presentations
  • 6 staff for poster presentations
  • 20 volunteer members

The 20 volunteers attending the AFAC Conference this year will include one chosen from each CFA district. These selections are being conducted by CFA regions.

The conference and concurrent trade exhibition provides delegates with the opportunity to be informed on a range of contemporary and future fire management issues from local and international experts:

  • find out about the latest products and services available in fire fighting and emergency management.
  • network with Australian and international fire management professionals
  • build professional networks with fellow CFA members.

Delegates are being selected based on the recommendation of their relevant Regional or Executive Director. Endorsement of the final delegate group will be sought from the Chief Officer and CEO.
