Yesterday, Sunday 5 May, Essendon and Geelong Football Clubs celebrated CFA and regional Victoria at the annual AFL Country Round match.

The day kicked off with a festival outside the ground in Yarra Park, with entertainment from Kasey Chambers, sheep and cattle dog herding demonstrations and fresh produce from around Victoria.
CFA contributed to the fun with entertainment from April and Captain Koala, a jumping castle, trucks and crews from The Basin and Diamond Creek brigades and an interactive hoses and ladders kids’ game.
While the kids were enjoying themselves, CFA members took the opportunity to pass on valuable home fire safety information to their carers.
The celebrations continued on the ground with a big thank you from the AFL clubs to all CFA volunteers.
80 CFA volunteers were invited to represent CFA and take part in the pre-match, on ground activity, performing a guard of honour for their respective teams.
The group then joined to unfurl a giant-sized Australian flag during a meaningful performance of ‘Waltzing Matilda’ by iconic Australian singer John Williamson.
As the CFA group left the ground there was a large applause from the crowd who appreciate the amazing work CFA volunteers do to keep Victoria safe.
The AFL Country Game was first introduced in 2016. The initiative was created to raise awareness and to celebrate regional Victorians who make a difference to our nation.
