All part of the job for Bill
The Swan Hill Guardian has written a profile story on CFA's regional operations manager Bill Johnstone.
From the Swan Hill Guardian:
FLOODS, fires and helicopter rescues are all part of the job for Country Fire Authority operations manager Bill Johnstone.
Long nights, strange hours and "strange things" make up the most part of his work at the District 18 headquarters in Swan Hill, and he wouldn't have it any other way.
Mr Johnstone's journey to the Swan Hill region has been an unlikely one.
At the age of seven, his family immigrated to Australia from Scotland "for a better life" and settled in Gisborne, where Mr Johnstone took up a chef apprenticeship upon leaving school.
When he realised full-time cooking wasn't on the cards for his future, he left to tackle a series of jobs including sanitation service worker, labourer and grave digger.
