The Chair of the Country Fire Authority, Mr Greg Smith AM, has today announced the appointment of Mr Steve Warrington as Chief Officer.
“I am pleased to announce following a thorough national search, Mr Warrington has accepted the permanent role of Chief Officer.”
“Mr Warrington has a long and distinguished history of service with the Country Fire Authority and has demonstrated the necessary knowledge, skill and enthusiasm to deliver strong and stable leadership of the organisation.”
“The Victorian community should have every confidence in Mr Warrington’s ability to drive emergency response during times of crisis and also lead the Country Fire Authority as it works through challenges including enhancing diversity among volunteer and career fire fighters,” Mr Smith said.
Mr Warrington has been serving as Chief Officer since his appointment on a fixed term mid-last year.
An independent executive recruitment agency was appointed to conduct a national search to ensure a thorough and transparent appointment, with a selection panel comprised of the Chair, two Board members (Dr Gillian Sparkes and Mr Peter Shaw) joined by the Chief Executive Officer of Ambulance Victoria, Mr Tony Walker, who served as an independent panel member.
A unanimous recommendation was made to the Board at a meeting held today with Mr Warrington appointed for a standard 5 year term.
