Bacchus Marsh FB creates buffer for town
Brigades from Bacchus Marsh, Myrniong and Coimadai took part in a strategic hazard reduction burn today on the outskirts of Bacchus Marsh.
With grasses approaching six feet high, this area, once burnt out, creates a buffer for the south-western urban fringe of town.
With Captain Phil Clayden from Bacchus Marsh as burn controller, 'strip burning' was coordinated on a number of edges to aid in stopping the fire escaping once the fire took hold during the burn.
When blacking out was completed, crews made their way back to Bacchus Marsh Fire Station for refreshments and a late lunch before returning to their home stations.
