Ballarat East school incident
The cause of some children falling ill at a Ballarat East primary school is undetermined.
CFA was called to the school on Fortune Street just before 1pm today (31 March) and found 17 children were suffering from vomiting or stomach cramps.
Those children were sent home and the remaining children in the class were moved to another classroom.
CFA’s initial assessment ruled out a gas leak or chemical spill but they called in the Corio Hazmat Detection Unit to do further testing. These tests all came back clear so the scene was declared safe just after 2.45pm.
The children affected were believed to be around 10 years of age. No one was sent to hospital.
Four CFA trucks were on scene from Ballarat City, Ballarat and Corio. Crews remained on scene until around 3.15pm.
