Ballarat makes safe mistakes
Volunteers from CFA’s Ballarat Sebastopol and Haddon fire brigades made a special appearance at Ballarat Station last Thursday with V/Line staff to help promote the Safe Mistake Zone home fire safety campaign.
As part of the campaign, a V/Line train has been decorated internally and externally with home fire safety messages from the Safe Mistake Zone campaign and is travelling across regional Victoria to spread the message.
Mark Cartledge, Captain of Ballarat Fire Brigade said, "it was important to keep reminding people to take extra care in the home as the majority of fires in the home are caused by small mistakes people make such as leaving cooking unattended which resulted in 340 fires in the last year. Home fires happen all year round. If we can get people to take extra care in the home, then we can help prevent fires, he said".
CFA is taking the visually engaging outdoor Safe Mistake Zone pop up event across regional Victoria. Ballarat’s Bridge Mall experienced many strangers marrying on a whim and getting bad tattoos and hairdos, all in the name of home fire safety.
Everyone can help spread the word by making their own #safemistake and by visiting www.safemistakezone.com.au
The Safe Mistake Zone campaign runs through til the end of September 2014.
