Barraport and Gredgwin brigades merge
As a result of several meetings including a public meeting held in late July in the recently completed new Barraport Fire Station, members of the Gredgwin and Barraport Fire Brigades agreed unanimously to merge the two brigades.
The new brigade name will be Barraport-Gredgwin, with a combined Brigade Management Team of members from both brigades.
The two tankers currently housed at Barraport and Gredgwin, will become known as Tanker 1 and Tanker 2. Combining resources, members and brigade strength can only be a positive for these two small communities, with both fire stations still being used at this stage.
The new Barraport Fire Station is set to be officially opened in September or October, and this will only add to the very positive outlook for these two combined brigades.
Operations Manager Peter Taylor from District 20 in Kerang congratulated both brigades on the way in which the outcome was achieved, and offered CFA’s full support for a smooth and successful transition.
