Be Ready Warrandyte video
South Warrandyte Fire Brigade has assisted in the production of a video with the message “Be ready Warrandyte”.
“The Warrandyte Community Association got a grant to be put towards community safety,” explains South Warrandyte Captain Greg Kennedy who appears in the video. “A survey was done and it was found that only about five per cent of locals have an effective bushfire plan. The association came up with the “Be Ready Warrandyte” title and this video is about raising awareness that everyone should have a plan.
“The Manningham and Nillumbik shire councils were also both involved and provided some additional money, as did the Warrandyte community bank.
“The Be Ready concept is designed so that it can be picked up by any community.”
The video will be officially launched at next month’s Warrandyte Festival and is already playing regularly at the local supermarket. All actors involved are locals.
“Warrandyte is a very strong and a very pro-active community,” says Greg.
"The project has the wholehearted backing of the North Warrandyte and Warrandyte brigades and also Regions 13 and 14 as well as South Warrandyte," explains Warrandyte Community Association President Dick Davies. "They all attend our project management meetings and are a great and valued resource. We also have the emergency management officers from the local councils as well as various other local professionals and residents on the committee."
