Best ever CFA Open Day at Yackandandah
For the past three years, Yackandandah brigade has participated in CFA Sunday (now called CFA Open Day) and opened its doors to the public. Despite Sunday 16 November dawning to torrential rain, it turned out to be the most successful open day we've had.
Fifty-two adults, 39 children and 14 dogs (who admittedly only came because they were dragged along!) came through the station to view the vehicles, sound their sirens, pick up summer fire season information and showbags (with complimentary balloons and red helmets) and, of course, to squirt water at anything that moved. With 14 brigade members helping during the day, they were spoiled for choice of target!
We also recruited three new members to the brigade who will be expected to start their training in Decemeber.
This year we purposefully chose a date that coincided with the local Yackandandah Lions Club Market. This was a good decision because the increased local and visitor traffic then strolled down the main street to the fire station.
It also paid to send three attractive firefighters to the market to drink coffee and hand out showbags to the children.
We look forward to participating in the 2015 Open Day and, who knows, with perfect weather we may exceed this year's visitor numbers.
