Brigade management team workshops
In October, members of the Wallington brigade participated in a brigade management team workshop called “Communicating Effectively”.
This two-hour workshop focused on how to improve communication skills and develop effective working relationships through:
- identifying key workplace relationships
- developing trust and confidence
- communicating effectively
- developing and maintaining networks
Feedback from those who participated in the session was positive. Participants highlighted the importance of networking with other emergency services in the district and engaging members in brigade and community activities.
Wallington Captain Craig Warren said: “Being part of any leadership team requires a number of different skills and all too often, we focus on just the operational/technical skills. We are very actively working to develop our future leaders and the “communicating effectively workshop” taught us all something about the importance of communicating and highlighted some areas we’d been avoiding. As a consequence of the workshop, we’re going to be a better brigade management team”.
BMT workshops are designed to assist BMT members develop and maintain healthy and effective brigades. Other BMT workshops focus on the following topics:
- Performance management
- Meeting skills
- Work / life balance
