Bringing expertise from Canada to CFA

Canadian-based HeartWood Centre for Community Youth Development facilitator Brian Braganza has been engaged by CFA to spend three weeks in September working intensively to enhance CFA’s understanding of effective youth engagement practices and build our capacity to meaningfully engage with younger members.

'Introduction to Youth Engagement' is a one-day interactive workshop being held by Mr Braganza, and co-facilitated by youth members from District 20. The workshop will be held on Thursday, 28 September from 8.30am to 4pm at the Mitiamo Football Club.

The workshop will:

  • explore opportunities and challenges for youth engagement
  • introduce concepts, principles and practices of youth engagement
  • provide tools and resources to facilitate ongoing work with young people
  • define concrete actions and next steps.

Participants will be exposed to cutting-edge youth engagement concepts including Appreciative Approach and Shifts in Thinking, the Youth Engagement Spectrum and HeartWood's Circle of Awesomeness.

Brigade and community members, as well as representatives from other agencies, including local councils and other organizations, are encouraged to take advantage of this fantastic opportunity.

Mr Braganza has been involved with HeartWood Centre for Community Youth Development since 1995, finding ways for diverse young people to meaningfully share their gifts and skills with their communities. Brian delivers programs to young people, capacity building for adults, and consults with whole systems interested in engaging youth in intentional ways.
