A towing and wrecking yard was heavily involved in fire on Sunday afternoon (1 June) around midday.

Crews from Broadford, Clonbinane, Kilmore, Wallan and Sunbury attended the Mia Mia Street fire which engulfed a 20 X 15 metre tin building containing a prime mover and several cars.

Captain Atkin found the shed fully involved and made tankers 4 to assist with water supplies. The fire gave the crews several problems with gas cylinders exploding and reclaimed oil burning.

EPA were notified and police and Ambulance Victoria Paramedics attended although no injuries were reported. Sunbury BA Support arrived with more BA cylinders and Wallan assisted with a Thermal Imaging Camera to help locate hotpots.

Damage is estimated at half a million dollars and crews did a great job to protect neighbouring properties from exposure due to the fire. A stop was placed on the call at 3:53pm and the council building surveyor also attended.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
