Key Bushfire Documentation For The Bushfire Season:
As we rapidly lead into the fire season, it is timely to draw attention to a number of key documents and preparedness activities that form our bushfire command and control arrangements for the summer:

The State Bushfire Plan:
Victoria has released the State Bushfire Plan, which provides an overarching view of responsibilities of agencies, government and communities in bushfire management. The Plan has been developed with the CFA, MFB, DSE and the Fire Services Commissioner. It reflects an integrated approach and shared responsibility for bushfire management between government, agencies, communities and individuals. It is in line with the joined-up approach and contains a consolidated overview of the current Victorian arrangements for bushfire prevention, response and recovery. See the link at:

The Revised Command and Control Arrangements for Bushfire 2012:
The Fire Services Commissioner with the State Control Team has revised and re-issued the Arrangements for the Command and Control of Bushfire in Victoria 2012. The link is:

Victorian Fire Agencies Handbook 2012-13:
This conveniently sized Handbook summarises the operational systems of work and structures used by CFA, DSE and MFB for bushfire preparedness and response in Victoria. It is a great "ready reference" tool. It can be found at:

Pre Summer Season Briefings and Exercises / Scenarios:
Although state level briefings are now complete, regional briefings are currently still under way. For those that missed any of the briefings the PowerPoint slides and videos are on the State Control Centre Extranet at:

State Level Fire Exercise:
There will be a State level fire exercise in early December 2012 in the soon to be refurbished State Control Centre. This will involve all functional units, State Control Team and the State Emergency Management Team.

With some trepidation, Deputy Chiefs Steve Warrington, John Haynes, Alen Slijepcevic, Joe Buffone, Alan Ellis and I have entered into "Movember". The aim is to raise funds and create awareness about prostate cancer and other men's health issues. My "Movember" web site is at: So if you notice a bit of excess hair on our upper lips in the next few weeks, please forgive us - it's for a good cause!
