CFA Senior Researcher Bushfire Research and Development Rachel Bessell presents the bushfire seasonal outlook for December 2019.

In the video below, Rachel explains the increased potential for large fires due to Victoria experiencing very dry landscapes, as well as the potential high occurrence of plume-dominated fires in forests affected by drought.

As a result, operational and management decisions will need to consider firefighter and community safety, including increased tree hazards and prolonged exposure for smoke for some communities.

We want to make sure Victorians are well informed about the conditions we are up against this fire season.

Throughout summer we'll be providing monthly updates to our members, focusing on weather factors and changes and highlighting the conditions that firefighters will be facing. For more information and resources view the 2019-20 Seasonal Focus on Members Online.
