A simple fire extinguisher could have prevented the destruction by fire of a $100k tractor at Cape Paterson, early Monday 5 November, firefighters say.

Three fire crews from Wonthaggi and one from Inverloch found the tractor engulfed in flames when they arrived on scene, around 7.45am.

The driver noticed smoke coming from the engine bay, apparantly caused by the build up of hay and other debris.

With no extinguisher, the driver attempted to move the vehicle closer to water but was forced to abandon the vehicle.

While the driver was unhurt, the tractor was completely destroyed.
