Earlier this week, Red Hill Fire Brigade members got together to celebrate Christmas as they do each year.

This year they took the opportunity to thank their outgoing captain, Darrel Setter, for 26 years of dedicated and exemplary service to his community as captain of the brigade and 54 years total service with CFA.

Darrel, who is one of the brigade's most experienced and dedicated firefighters, will continue to serve his community as 2nd lieutenant of the brigade and mentor younger members for many years to come.

Darrel’s replacement as captain is Sam Norris who has 20 years of experience with CFA in Red Hill and has served as Darrel’s lieutenant for many years. The brigade is grateful to have such a dedicated and experienced person to continue Darrel’s legacy.

In the photo Darrel is pictured with an award that was presented to him to commemorate the occasion. It displays his distinctive red captain’s helmet and is now one of his most cherished belongings.

Also at the brigade get-together, service awards were presented to Barry Johns for 65 years of dedicated and continuous service to CFA, John Stort (40 years) and James Mirtschin (20 years).
