Firefighters from Frankston, Carrum Downs, Cranbourne and Patterson River responded to a house fire in Carrum Downs at 8.30am this morning.
Incident Controller, Frankston Brigade Senior Station Officer David Ellams, said about 40 per cent of the roof was on fire when crews arrived, after a fire is believed to have started in the verandah area outside.
He said the occupant had been woken by a working smoke alarm and was able to escape after noticing flames outside the kitchen window.
15 firefighters were able to bring the fire under control by 9.15am.
The cause of the fire is unknown. If an interview with the owner and inspection by building surveyor cannot help determine the cause, the fire will be referred to CFA fire investigators.
