CFA’s female members have been honoured at an event marking International Women’s Day which also saw the release of Celebrating CFA Women, a special publication.

Celebrating CFA Women is a booklet compiling stories and profiles that represent the wide-ranging contributions of CFA women in both operational and non-operational roles. Watch a video compilation below.

Mr Ferguson said that International Women's Day was about recognising the achievements of women but also about looking to the future and challenging the status quo.

“It is time for actions, not just words,” he said.

“CFA will challenge our existing processes, culture and biases to make this happen. Words are important but actions will demonstrate commitment.

“While in the past CFA members had attended a myriad of events to recognise women, the organisation hasn’t had an opportunity to focus on recognition of our own 12,000-plus female members around the State,” Mr Ferguson added.

The new booklet Celebrating CFA Women has been produced to support CFA local brigades to show potential recruits the range of roles and opportunities at CFA – its stories include profiles of women involved with firefighting, peer support, community education and logistics.
