The contribution and commitment of CFA volunteers will be celebrated this week as part of National Volunteer Week (8-14 May).

Events will be held across the state in the largest celebration of volunteers and volunteerism in Australia.

CFA Acting Chief Officer Alen Slijepcevic said National Volunteer Week was a time to pause and thank volunteers for their efforts in keeping Victorians safe.

“We recognise the valuable contribution that each CFA’s 55,000 volunteers make to our organisation, all year round,” he said.

“But this week is about showcasing you, and celebrating your work as volunteers, from those in the smallest country towns to our regional cities and expanding metropolitan suburbs.

“This includes volunteers who are present and active, and all those who have served in the past.

“We are incredibly proud of all our members and the roles that each of you plays in providing such a valuable service to the community.

“Thank you for your service, and for helping to keep our communities safe.”

As part of the week’s celebrations, 200 CFA volunteers will take part in AFL Country Round (Round 8) on Saturday 13, May with a Lap of Honour around the MCG arena before the game between Essendon and Geelong.

The Lap of Honour forms part of pre-match activities and also includes SES and Life Saving Victoria members.

Other activities planned for CFA members also include tours of the State Control Centre and the ESTA Triple Zero centre.
