CFA has lodged an application with the Fair Work Commission regarding the United Firefighters Union (UFU) action to prevent staff from undertaking training on the new Heavy Hazmat vehicle.

From CEO Mick Bourke’s blog:

“This unprotected industrial action, imposed and organised by the UFU, is unnecessarily delaying the introduction of our new $15 million fleet of high-tech specialist appliances.

These Heavy Hazmat vehicles will replace existing Hazmat response vehicles in Ballarat City, Corio, Hallam and Shepparton, and provide state-of-the-art protection from chemical, biological and radiological incidents in and around country Victoria.

CFA feels this unprotected industrial action is unreasonable. The delivery of this training is the culmination of months of hard work to ensure these appliances are ready, safe and suitable to come into service.”
