My first three weeks as CEO have given me the opportunity to gain a greater understanding of the diverse and extensive work our organisation delivers.

I have met some talented and committed volunteers, career firefighters and support staff, and I have been impressed by the huge range of services CFA offers across Victoria. I have also taken note of the volume of high-quality work we continue to deliver despite the tensions of this challenging period.

As somebody who comes to this role with a fresh perspective from outside of emergency services, I am honoured to have the opportunity to work with an organisation of this calibre to ensure we are positioned to continue delivering for our communities.

I am of course well aware of the tensions within CFA and the pressure many individuals are under as a result of the public and internal debate about the proposed Operational Enterprise Agreement.

The Board held a special meeting last week to consider the proposed Enterprise Agreement. It is a complex document which requires careful interpretation. The Board is continuing to look at what the agreement will mean for CFA and how issues can be addressed.

Board Chair Greg Smith and I are consulting with key stakeholders, both internally and externally, to ensure we are fully informed about the diversity of views so the Board can be sure it has taken all views into consideration.

We are committed to continuously sharing information about the EBA, the process and what it means for you.

Please stay focused on delivering for our communities and how we move forward as an organisation. I look forward to meeting more of you in person in the weeks ahead.
