CFA 2017 Memorial Service
CFA will honour those members who have lost their lives in the line of duty at our Annual Memorial Service which is being held on Sunday 7 May 2017.
The service will commence at 2pm in the Auditorium of Federation University, in Churchill just near Morwell.
This year marks the 35th anniversary of the passing of firefighters Darren John McLean of Churchill-Jerrang RFB (14/2/1982) and also William John Pierson from Dandenong UFB (24/1/1982).
The Annual Memorial Service is an event to honour and commemorate the lives of CFA firefighters who have not returned home from the fireground. It is a time for reflection and just one of the ways we can remember the lives of 67 CFA members and 11 Country Fire Brigades Board and Bush Fire Brigades Committee firefighters, (prior to the formation of the CFA), who have paid the ultimate sacrifice and given their lives in service to protecting our communities.
CFA’s Chief Officer, Steve Warrington said the Annual Memorial Service is an opportunity to acknowledge those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice. “Through loss, hardship and experience, we have learnt from all those who have come before. We honour the commitment, dedication and hard work from all who protect our Victorian communities – and reflect on their legacy that lives on in CFA”.
Last years’ service saw CFA’s brand new three memorial banners unveiled as a representation of CFA’s memorial wall. These banners travel to each of the Memorial Services, to remember those firefighters who died in the line of duty with CFA and its predecessor organisations, the Country Fire Brigades Board and the Bush Fire Brigades Committee.
The CFA Annual Memorial service is held on the Sunday closest to International Firefighters’ Day and St Florien’s Day (May 4th). St Florien is the Patron Saint of Firefighters.
All are welcome to attend this service.
