CFA activities for Australia Day 2017
CFA members will be taking part in a number of activities this Australia Day including the Government House Open Day when the historic home and extensive gardens open to the public on Thursday, 26 January 2017.
Our patron, the Honourable Linda Dessau AM, Governor of Victoria and Mr Anthony Howard QC, will host the Open Day and members of the public are invited to view Government House and the grounds between 9.30am and 3.30pm (self-guided tours of the house will run from 10am to 3pm).
CFA Bayswater Fire Brigade members will be in attendance alongside their pumper and our mobile education bus, providing community safety information for the parents and activities for the kids.
Others participating in the day include Croquet Victoria, Tennis Victoria, Cricket Victoria, the Royal Flying Doctor Service, Collingwood Children’s Farm, Inside the Brick, the Skin and Cancer Foundation and St John Ambulance CPR Lab.
CFA will also be taking part in the Australia Day Parade, which offers entertainment for all ages and a place where everyone can wave their flags, cheer on participants and delight in the colour and movement. The Australia Day Parade is an opportunity for community and cultural groups to come together and participate in this spectacular annual event.
This year will be the third year CFA has participated in the Australia Day Parade, which will include around 40 CFA and Coast Guard volunteers led by bagpipe players.
The Parade starts at 11am following the Australia Day Official Flag Raising Ceremony at Melbourne Town Hall and will flow down Swanston Street into St Kilda Road.
