Bunnings Warehouse is continuing its support of CFA in 2017, with plans well underway for the 4th annual Aussie Day Weekend Fundraiser BBQ.

The commitment is part of Bunnings’ wider community involvement and sustainability initiatives that last year saw more than 70,000 activities across Australia and New Zealand raise $37 million for community and charitable groups.

The Aussie Day BBQ, which also supports SES volunteers, has raised almost $200,000 for CFA – including $77,000 from this year’s event.

Bunnings also partnered with CFA and MFB this year to support our annual Smoke Alarm Awareness Campaign, which reminds Victorians to change their smoke alarm batteries when they change their clocks at the end of daylight savings.

CFA and MFB’s new smoke alarm guides were made available in shopping aisles at Bunnings stores across the state, to help customers distinguish between the different types of smoke alarms available.

Every store also set up smoke alarm displays with different types of units, batteries, fire blankets, extinguishers, dusters, small vacuums (which can be used to clean smoke alarm units), campaign posters and brochures.

On Saturday 2 April, CFA members headed down to their local stores to man these displays and provide important advice on smoke alarm safety to community members.

These new initiatives were well-received by the community and demonstrated Bunnings’ strong commitment to helping us educate the community on smoke alarm safety.

CFA staff and volunteers will be also on hand at a number of Bunnings stores across Victoria this coming January to encourage people to buy a snag and learn more about fire safety.

The 2017 Aussie Day Weekend Fundraiser will be held on Saturday 28 January from 9am and 4pm. Further details on stores and brigades taking part will be available closer to the date.
