CFA Annual Memorial Service
CFA will honour members who lost their lives in the line of duty at the CFA Annual Memorial Service on Sunday 4 May.
This year, the service will return to the CFA’s State Training College at Fiskville and will commence at 11.00am.
CFA Chief Executive Officer Mick Bourke said the Annual Memorial Service is an event to honour and commemorate the lives of CFA firefighters who never returned home from the fireground.
“It is a time for reflection and just one of the ways we can remember the lives of 67 members who have given their lives in service to protecting our communities,” he said.
“It’s also an opportunity to acknowledge those who paid the ultimate sacrifice. Through loss, hardship and experience, we have learnt from all those who have come before.
“We honour the commitment, dedication and hard work from all who protect Victorian communities – and reflect on their legacy that lives on in CFA.”
The service also draws from CFA’s Memorial Wall at the Fiskville Training College, to remember those firefighters who died in the line of duty with CFA and its predecessor organisations, the Country Fire Brigades Board and the Bush Fire Brigades Committee.
The CFA Annual Memorial Service is held on the Sunday closest to International Firefighters’ Day and St Florian’s Day (May 4). St Florian is the Patron Saint of Firefighters.
