CFA assists SA with floods

More than 120 CFA members have been travelling between Victoria and South Australia to assist with floods and emergency service efforts.

The first CFA team left Victoria on Friday 30 September and we are expecting the last team to return on Friday 7 October, unless circumstances change.

Teams will work in two day deployments before returning to their districts to undertake regular CFA duties.

CFA personnel are primarily assisting SES with filling sand bags, bagging off properties and rescue efforts.

Deputy Chief Officer Alen Slijepcevic said the cooperation between emergency service and state departments has been amazing.

“SES, fire crews and defence forces from all across Australia have pulled together to help local communities, regardless of which state they come from,” said Mr Slijepcevic.

CFA sent 15 vehicles including 10 tankers, 2 command vehicles, 2 mechanic vehicles and 1 radio tech vehicle to South Australia which are all expected to return by Sunday 9 October.

CFA is able to send assistance and still maintain the level of support needed for our state if we experience more rainfall or flooding this week.
