On Sunday 23 October members of the Boronia Fire Brigade attended the 6th annual Knox City Community Safety Day.
The event, which was held at Westfield shopping centre at Knox, aims to raise awareness for the emergency services available in the Knox community and also provides an opportunity for the community to meet the men and women who work hard to keep us safe.
CFA, SES, Ambulance Victoria, St John Ambulance and Victoria Police were all in attendance.
Emergency services pulled together to give a real-life demonstration of a motor vehicle accident. Onlookers were able to see the differing roles of SES, CFA, ambulance and VicPol in this particular emergency situation.
After the demonstration there were opportunities for the community to take a look at the equipment used by each of the services, and kids were invited to have their photo taken in new and vintage vehicles.
Boronia Fire Brigade’s 4th Lieutenant Kevin Truong said the event is a great opportunity to get out in the community and demonstrate what we do.
“It’s important for people to understand the role of each emergency service and how they interact with one another,” said Mr Truong.
“Although we all have our own specific duties we are constantly working together to ensure our communities are safe.”
The event also provided the opportunity for CFA members to discuss some timely safety messages including fire season preparedness and the importance of having working smoke alarms.
