CFA celebrates cultural diversity
CFA is proud to be a supporter of Cultural Diversity Week (12-20 March) and will be taking part in a range of activities throughout the week.
Coordinated by the Victorian Multicultural Commission, Cultural Diversity Week provides an opportunity for CFA and all Victorians to celebrate its rich cultural, linguistic and religious diversity.
With an Italian heritage, CFA Chief Officer Joe Buffone understands the importance of cultural diversity.
“Cultural Diversity Week brings together Victorians from all walks of life to promote community harmony and celebrate the many cultures that make our state so vibrant,” he said.
“One of the many things I love about CFA is our 57,000 members come from a range of backgrounds.
“There’s so much we can learn from one another and it’s great to see many of our members getting involved in activities throughout the week.”
This year CFA, MFB and SES will present a joint display featuring a range of community safety messages covering all-hazards at the Victorian Multicultural Festival at Federation Square on Sunday, 20 March.
This is the third year CFA has taken part in this large festival which last year attracted more than 45,000 people.
CFA volunteers from Noble Park and Truganina brigades will be attending to help support the festival.
“Both of these brigades have a large culturally and linguistically diverse population in their patch and have been doing a sterling job engaging the local community,” Mr Buffone said.
CFA will also be taking part in the Ballarat Harmony Festival on the same day. CFA will be involved in the parade and a large community safety display.
On Wednesday, 16 March, CFA’s District 8 office will actively participate in the Springvale Neighbourhood House Harmony Festival in Dandenong. They will be engaging with the community, which will include demonstrating how to use a fire blanket utilising a cooking prop, talking about the importance of smoke alarms and general home fire safety.
“All these events attract thousands of people which is a great way to share what we do in the community,” Mr Buffone said.
“It also offers an avenue for the promotion of important fire safety messages to the wider Victorian community.
“I encourage everyone to attend – there’s a range of fun activities for the whole family to enjoy, while also celebrating the importance of cultural diversity.”
