CFA collects record $ for Appeal
A huge congratulations and three cheers for all CFA members across the state who collected an astounding record amount of $1,408,853 for this year’s Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal. That’s about $200,000 more than last year!
Our achievement wasn’t the only record broken for the day, with the final tally smashing last year’s amount of $15.8 million to total $16,405,534.Click here to see the official media release.
CFA members joined forces with their communities and participated in many ways throughout the year and on Good Friday to raise funds for our world-class Children’s Hospital; here are some of the ways we showed we care:
Numerous brigade activities – were happening all across the state, from Werribee and Point Cook, to Wonthaggi and Mildura. Well done to all brigades, who got involved and showed their true community spirit by helping to make 2013 a record breaking year.
Captain Koala & Moomba Queen April - had the opportunity for the first time to visit the Children’s Hospital wards on the day, entertaining children, and spreading some CFA cheer. One ward in particular – the Koala Ward – was eagerly awaiting CK’s appearance; he was the star of the day! Our Moomba Queen April from The Basin Brigade did a brilliant job along with CK’s helper Gabby, who entertained the children and rubbed shoulders with various celebrities, some of whom were star struck by our very CFA celebs.
Good Friday Appeal Relay – Together with our MFB colleagues, and the Uncle Bob’s Club, CFA members raised a record $27,115 for the cause. Running laps of about 800 metres around the Melbourne CBD in teams. More than 120 people from across Melbourne and regional Victoria gathered for the 14-hour event on Thursday 28 March.
High-Angle Rescue Challenge – involved CFA and MFB performing a rescue at MFB’s Burnley Training Complex. The demonstration was hosted by Matthew “Richo” Richardson and MFB Leading
Firefighter (LFF) Danny Ward narrating the display from the ground. The pre-recorded rescue aired on Friday night’s telecast on Channel 7. The demonstration was supported by Anaconda who donated a $5000 cheque to the Good Friday Appeal at the end of the demonstration. Well done to Senior Station Officer Darryl Owens, LFF Brad Trewavis and LFF Alec Draffin who all did Team CFA proud.
New GFA donations app - was loaded onto the CFA Facebook page and raised an additional $410. Every little bit counts!
