One in five Australians lives with a disability at any particular time and this is increasing with our ageing population.

Our people come from a wide range of backgrounds and we have members who live with disability and actively contribute to their communities and CFA.

CFA now has a plan to ensure its services and programs are easily available to all Victorians, including those living with a disability.

CFA’s disability action plan was created in consultation with members, VFBV and disability organisations including Scope.

The plan sets out CFA’s aims over the next 12 months, which include:

  1. reducing barriers to people living with a disability accessing CFA services and facilities and ensuring CFA is inclusive when engaging with local communities
  1. ensuring our employment procedures are non-discriminatory and providing disability awareness training across the organisation
  1. promoting inclusion and participation of people living with a disability in CFA public activities
  1. ensuring that CFA practices promote awareness of disability and the importance of participation for all employees, volunteers and members of our community.

Some practical examples include:

  • Providing ramps, larger screens and adjustable desks as required
  • Ensuring we’re communicating in a way that is accessible to everyone
  • Reviewing the way we promote jobs and volunteering opportunities
  • Increasing the level of disability awareness training within CFA.

Everyone in CFA is encouraged to become familiar with the plan, which is available on the CFA website and CFA Online, and support it through their work.
