CFA operational equipment, community education, training and development and maintenance projects will be funded thanks to the first round of emergency volunteer grants announced this week.
On Monday Emergency Services Minister James Merlino announced the first 261 successful projects worth $5 million at the Volunteer Coast Guard Frankston Flotilla.
The funding will go towards supporting emergency services volunteers across the state and forms part of the $15 million Emergency Services Volunteer Sustainability Grants Program.
Successful CFA projects included funding for Thermal Imaging Cameras, truck licence training courses, station improvement works and supporting a young volunteer to take part in a project called Endeavour Youth Scheme.
Devon Meadows Fire Brigade will receive funding for a Thermal Imaging Camera which will assist in house fires and search and rescue operations.
Rescue capability at Portland Fire Brigade will be bolstered after the brigade received funding for technical rescue equipment.
Brigade member Jason Radley said the equipment would allow the brigade to respond better to rescues.
“This will allow us to train better and respond better to emergencies,” he said.
“To us this is extra ropes, a stretcher for confined space rescues, a stretcher for high angle rescues and the ancillary gear, including harnesses.
“We are really excited that this will mean our brigade will be more self-sufficient.”
