CFA Golf Club – Murray Masters 2013
The CFA Golf Club have recently run their first official tournament weekend with great success.
Dubbed the ‘Murray Masters’, the event was run over 3 days in the Murray River towns of Cobram / Barooga and Tocumwal in late April 2013 with various individual and team events contested over 54 holes of golf.
Officially formed about 2 years ago out of a group of social golfers who frequently played golf together, the CFA Golf Club has grown over the past 18 months to boast over 60 ‘members’ who meet regularly to enjoy relaxed social golf, friendly competition and getting out and being active with fellow CFA colleagues.
The CFA Golf Club consists of career staff, volunteers and administrative personnel whose golfing experience ranges from once a week, to once a year players. The format of the monthly rounds are very relaxed, with participation and enjoyment being the main focus, with the added incentive of some impressive awards and prizes on offer for those who choose to enter the friendly competitions run at each round.
The CFA Golf Club is also an affiliated club of the CFA Sports and Recreation Association (SRA), who recently generously provided a grant to the golf club to assist them in the production of high quality CFA branded wearing apparel for use at the regular events and tournaments held.
Members of the club looked very impressive and professional as they stepped out onto the course for the first time in their brand new CFA Golf Club apparel for Day 1 of the Murray Masters, something that was acknowledged by golf club resort employees and fellow guests alike.
The level of enthusiasm and spirit of participation throughout the tournament (both on and off the course) was of the highest order, and with over 20kms of fairways, greens (and some unplanned bushwalking) covered by each of the participants, the ideal of getting out and being active whilst having fun with colleagues was certainly realised.
Congratulations to Graeme Symons who was named the first official Murray Master, taking home the trophy, a bundle of vouchers for use at the ‘House of Golf’ retail outlet, and most importantly winning the coveted Brown Tartan Masters Jacket!
The results from the event were as follows:
Murray Master: Graeme Symons
2nd Overall: Lachie Ross
3rd Overall: Brendan Scanlan
4th Overall: Lee Austin
5th Overall: John Townsend
Winning Trios Day 2 – Gavin Thompson, Lachie Ross and Andrew Judd.
Winning Fours Day 3 – Cliff O’Connor, Garry Harbrow, Lee Austin and Graeme Symons.
The CFA Golf Club thanks the CFA Sports and Recreation Association, The House of Golf Pakenham, the Mornington Fire Brigade and the Cranbourne Fire Brigade for their support in making the Murray Masters 2013 event possible.
