CFA has delivered dozens of boxes of food to the Lions Club as part of their ‘Need for feed’ campaign to help struggling dairy farmers in Gippsland.
Following the collapse of National Dairy Products in mid-November last year, farmers are facing tough times.
On Saturday, 18 Feb, CFA trucks gathered at Pakenham’s Satellite Station before driving convoy to Longwarry Town Hall.
Dandenong Fire Brigade’s Joe Aitken was one of the main organiser’s for CFA’s contribution.
“It was great to see so many brigades and community members across the state reaching out to help this cause, we couldn’t have done it without their generosity,” Joe said.
“We will continue to gather as much food as we can to support the farmers as the issue is ongoing.”
Lions Club Disaster Relief Coordinator and ex-CFA volunteer Graham Cockerell is also working to fill farmers’ sheds with quality fodder.

Joe said there are kids going to school without food so his aim was to fill the farmers’ pantries with as much non-perishable food as possible.
“We’ve hopefully delivered enough food to keep the dairy farmers going for a while but we will definitely keep the drive going,” Joe said.
Donations of food and household items can be dropped off at CFA brigades in Dandenong, Wonthaggi and Hastings. Donations can also be left at the old Pakenham fire station on John Street, Pakenham. Please contact Lisa Hicks on 0409 401 437 for Pakenham drop offs.
