CFA brigade members from Springvale and Keysborough brigades and the Field Service Delivery team will be getting together this weekend at Springvale Snow Fest to deliver important residential safety messages.

Before exploring the streets filled with snow, families can come and say hello to local brigade members, see the Springvale tanker and climb on board the Mobile Engagement Unit.

With less than 18% of households speaking English at home, the first step in preparing for this event was visiting the the CFA Website to find translated materials and safety messages in Vietnamese, Cantonese and Mandarin.

Conversations with the local brigade revealed that common causes of house fires are related to unattended candles and incense, use of gas bottles inside for cooking and unlicensed electrical works.

Knowing this the Field Service Delivery team has tailored the Mobile Engagement Unit to contain a fun, relevant and easy to understand display.

CFA Project Coordinator – Local Planning Christina Hangar said, “There have been a number of preventable house fires in Springvale and the surrounding areas.

The aim of our display is to show how easily identifiable household items, or situations, can lead to fires in the home. We tailor the MEU display to best suit the community we are engaging with.”

Snow Fest Springvale is a free event that kicks off at noon and is the only place in Melbourne this Sunday you can break out a move or two at the silent disco igloo, build a snowman from the 80 tonnes of snow trucked straight off Mt Buller and finish the evening watching the spectacular fireworks finale.
