CFA members receive Australia Day honours

CFA has figured prominently in the fire and emergency services sector of the 2016 Australia Day Honours List.

Seven CFA members have been awarded the Australian Fire Services Medal (AFSM) in recognition of their outstanding service to the community.

The CFA AFSM recipients are:

CFA Chief Officer Joe Buffone congratulated the recipients for their outstanding achievements

“I want to thank each one of the AFSM recipients for their contribution in making us a stronger, safer community,” Mr Buffone said.

“We are fortunate as an organisation to have so many outstanding people who devote a large part of their life to the protection of lives and property in their communities.”

“The AFSM personifies the outstanding efforts of these members, who all have made a remarkable contribution to CFA and it is fitting that their dedication and community spirit has been justly recognised in the Australian Honours awards.”

Further current and former CFA members received Order of Australia (OAM) medals in the Australia’s Day Honours for their outstanding service to the community.

They are:

  •        Robert Miles Dare – Eildon Fire Brigade
  •        John Willian Diprose – Bulart Fire Brigade
  •        Francis Bernard Dullard – Pine Grove Fire Brigade
  •        Hon. David Mylor Evans – Moyhu Fire Brigade
  •        Roy Mervyn Fox – Yarck Fire Brigade
  •        Michael Peter Gardiner – Gisborne Fire Brigade
  •        Edward Joseph Gardiner – Gisborne Fire Brigade
  •        George Albert McPherson – Myrtleford Fire Brigade
  •        Valerie Margaret McPherson – Myrtleford Fire Brigade
  •        Bernard Kennedy Walker – Miepoll Fire Brigade

“Again I want to congratulate all past and present members receiving awards today – they should all be very proud of their achievements and ongoing service to the community,” Mr Buffone said.
