For the seventh year, CFA members have taken part in the annual Midsumma Pride March.

The March, held annually as part of the Midsumma Festival, provides an opportunity to proudly demonstrate our commitment and support to the LGBTIQ+ community and to reaffirm our position as an inclusive and welcoming organisation.

A number of CFA members took part in the event alongside our emergency service colleagues, marching to support our LGBTIQ+ colleagues, friends and family members.

CFA Diversity and Inclusion Consultant Terri Wright said the March is an important way to show inclusion within CFA.

“The Midsumma Pride March is a fantastic way for CFA to show our support for the LGBTIQ+ community,” Terri said.

“As an emergency service organisation, CFA holds an important role in leading and challenging bias discrimination. By marching alongside our emergency service colleagues, we can show our support for all those who identify as part of the LGBTIQ+ community both in our sector and in our communities across the state.”

CFA Volunteer and previous Chair of the South East Region Inclusion & Fairness Council Paul Webster has attended the last seven Midsumma Pride Marches alongside CFA and says that as an ally it’s incredibly important to stand alongside the LGBTIQ+ community.

“I believe that everyone needs to be shown support, love and respect. Attending the March is a simple way to stand by our friends, family members and colleagues in the LGBTIQ+ community and show that support,” Paul said.

Paul said that attending a march is a fantastic way to increase your understanding of people who may be different to yourself.

“Taking part in Pride not only shows you care, but helps you to further your understanding of different people’s lived experience – no matter their age, gender, sexuality or race.”
