CFA Open Days in full swing
CFA Open Days are in full swing with hundreds of fire brigades opening their doors to their local community.
Open Days are a great opportunity for brigades to unite, meet the local community and show Victorians how they can protect themselves, their families and properties from fire this summer.
The Truganina Open Day was a true reflection that hard work pays off, boasting a turnout of more than 1500 people.
Although the weather was pretty ordinary, no one let that spoil their fun. Community members were invited to ‘step into the shoes’ of a firefighter for the day with running drills and incident simulations, but the real treat was for the juniors.
Kids had the chance to meet Captain Koala, dress up as a firefighter, sit behind the wheel of a fire truck and complete the highly anticipated treasure hunt.
Truganina Captain Colleen Goodfellow said the demand for information was overwhelming.
“Many people were seeking fire safety information as well as entertainment and it was fantastic to be able to answer so many people’s questions,” said Ms Goodfellow.
“Virtually every form of brochure, pamphlet and promotional item we had was completely exhausted.”
The Truganina fire brigade used social media as their primary source of advertising and by all accounts, it appears to have paid off.
“Members of the community really engaged with our Facebook page by liking posts, sharing photos and providing us with really useful feedback that will be great for next year’s event,” said Ms Goodfellow.
“A successful Open Day requires planning and hard work before the event, but for us this paid off handsomely. Seeing so many people through the doors of the station was very rewarding.”
CFA Open days will run until the end of December.
