CFA Open Days ready to roll
Hundreds of CFA fire brigades will open their doors to the public over the next three months, giving the community a chance to get to know their local brigade.
With over 300 CFA brigades hosting open days last year, the initiative has cemented its place in the annual calendar of many local communities across Victoria.
CFA Open days are the perfect opportunity for brigades to show the community what they do to keep everyone safe and deliver valuable fire safety messages.
Open days vary in size, ranging from 20 to 1500 community attendees and often include fire training drills, safety demonstrations, sausage sizzles, entertainment for kids and of course fire truck demonstrations.
“CFA open days are a great opportunity for people to find out how to best protect themselves, their family and property from fire this summer,” said CFA Chief Officer Steve Warrington.
“Importantly, people who engage with emergency services are more likely to respond more effectively to warnings and directions during times of emergency.
“Developing trust and familiarity between the community and emergency services is a crucial step in ensuring safety and greatly assists our members in their critical role of the protection of life and property.”
“We’re expecting another busy fire season. Although we have been experiencing heavy rain fall across some areas of the state we expect a warm, dry summer.
“Now is the time to prepare your family and home in the lead up to summer and we’re here to help – members will be on hand to provide a range of fire safety information.”
He said CFA Open Days were also a way for the public, and CFA as a whole, to recognise the great work being done by CFA members.
“On behalf of CFA I would like to thank our 55,000 members for their tireless efforts and contribution to their communities,” he said.
